Wooden Deck Options
Choosing the correct wood for the deck is as critical as building the deck itself. But first, you need to decide whether you want an elevated deck or an on-the-ground type. Both styles will retain the classic country look but they will be different in terms of function. Most decks are elevated because that's how decks should be. Having this type will also give an illusion of a wider fa?ade while keeping the deck safe from in-ground pests.The problem is, elevated decks are more expensive because more woods will be needed and the job will be more tedious. Elevated decks could be so empowering if added to shorter and smaller homes. The on-the-ground deck is the better choice. Woods to be used for this must be treated well, though, to keep them away from termites and make them strong enough to withstand extreme weather.
Hardwood like the Western Red Cedar, Redwood, and Mahogany are best whether for the elevated or on-the-ground decks, though they are costlier than the more common pressure-treated wood. The latter is usually made from Southern Yellow Pine and other similar species. When not treated, these woods are the worst choice for outdoor application because they are never as strong and resistant to pests as hardwood. So when using these, make sure that the contractor is experienced enough to give you the best recommendations.
